Most recent work:
Film Still – from “As expected”
This project stems from a project I loosely titled “Cutting negatives, rearranging memories”. I began researching my own archive of negatives (some thousands) of medium format personal work and family album negatives (many hundreds). Cutting the monochrome MF negatives and combining them with colour family negatives and scanning the result and re-presenting them as new narratives.
I have included some contact sheets at the end of this portfolio to provide more examples of the R&D so far in this project.
Film Still – from “White”
This work stems from my research into ‘Family Albums”. My father, a keen amateur photographer, and keeper of the family archive, destroyed it and all the associated evidence (negatives etc) before he died. As an artist, I curious as to my own reaction to that occurrence, especially when I view other family albums. I have gained access to other family archives and have begun my own personal family archive – a video of it can be viewed here https://vimeo.com/276909594
However it is very much a work in progress and, I think, is best presented in its physical form.
Oxford House Project.
I was invited to produce some new work with two other artists in a project ‘about’ Oxford House in Bethnal Green. Oxford House: https://www.oxfordhouse.org.uk/ai1ec_event/oxford-house-nexus/?instance_id=
My work sought to recreate the link between Oxford University – specifically Keble College – and Oxford House. I negotiated spent some time with Keble College making work to generate the series on view. I was lucky enough to sell three of the prints at the show.
“Are You still there?”
“I keep looking for him. I think I always will.”
The project “I keep looking for him. I think I always will” formed my major project for my undergraduate studies.
I was provided an opportunity to present the work, in an earlier form at a “Family Ties Seminar” the Glasgow School of Art in an episodic form in envelopes as well as in a wooden box that I designed and had built for the purpose.
